"We cannot emphasize too much the importance of the Mass, a divine service of love, because God became man to give himself to us through Jesus Christ who comes to us in the form of bread and wine, through Sacrament. Since we get spiritual life through Mass, by eating the flesh and drinking blood of Christ, the Mass is the greatest blessing, and life itself, for Christians?I pray that this fairy tale, The Weight of the Mass, makes a deep impression on everyone: the old and the young, women and men, and children, so that they will have enthusiastic love for God."
-Cardinal Kim, Soowhan, Korea
"When I first opened [The Weight of a Mass] and read the story, I was speechless? Its luminous artwork and fairy-tale ending win the children's imagination. The luminous paintings are inviting, especially one on the inside back cover that shows the bishop holding high the host at the wedding Mass."
-Tim Drake, Faith & Family Magazine (Spring 2005)
Josephine illustrates Cardinal Kim's wish in her beautiful, solemn tale, The Weight of a Mass. A beggar woman asks the local baker for a piece of stale bread; although she has no money, the woman offers to say a Mass for his intention. The baker mocks her in front of the entire store, writing "one Mass" on a scrap of tissue paper, and offering to determine its worth in bread on his weighted scale. A sudden miracle occurs and proves to be a conversion experience for the whole town! A terrific one-page supplement accompanies The Weight of a Mass, highlighting the sacraments touched on throughout the book, different symbols, and other details of the story that can be used to prompt discussion.
